ParcelLabel API

Using the ParcelLabel API allows merchants to generate shipping labels for use within the NZ Post parcel network for both international and domestic shipping.
Before using this API, merchants must contact an NZ Post account manager to enable parcel label generation. The ParcelLabel API ensures that each label contains all required information, such as address details, service type, and barcodes, in a standardised format so parcels can enter the NZ Post network and be delivered successfully to customers.

Uses of the ParcelLabel API

1) Generating labels for delivering goods to a customer

A merchant can request a parcel label through their Warehouse Management System (WMS). The ParcelLabel API returns the label data to the WMS, enabling the merchant to print the label. This label is then placed on a parcel that has completed its fulfilment process. Once attached, the parcel is ready to be handed over to NZ Post for delivery.

2) Generating return labels so a customer can return goods back to the merchant

During the fulfilment stage, a return parcel label can be included in the customer’s parcel. If the customer needs to exchange or return an item, they can use this label to send the item back to the merchant with minimal effort. Return labels are only charged once scanned into the NZ Post delivery network, so if the customer does not use the label, there is no cost to the merchant. The return label can be generated at the same time as the initial delivery label via the ParcelLabel API.

3) Generating labels so a merchant's customer can print labels and ship goods from their location to a buyer's location

A merchant with an eCommerce platform can offer shipping labels to their customers. When a seller lists and sells an item, they provide their address and the buyer’s address to the merchant. Using this information, the merchant calls the ParcelLabel API to generate the parcel label. The API returns the label, which is then provided to the seller to print and attach to the parcel. Once the label is attached, the parcel is ready to be handed over to NZ Post for delivery.
